CHAPTER 67 LUKE I found Josh in the backyard, his phone lying in the grass where he'd chucked it. He was pacing, his hands running through his hair, frustration etched into every line of his face.

"What's up with you?" I asked, leaning against the porch re watching him as he threw another glance at his phone like it might have magically fixed itself.

"Laura's not answering her phone," he grumbled, kicking at the dirt like it personally offended him. The guy was wound tighter than a drum. For a second there, I wondered if maybe he had found out aboutand Jessica, but relief skimmed over me- he didn't. Otherwise, I would have been the one on the grass.

I walked over, dropped down onto the grass beside him, and stared up at the sky, trying to keep my own irritation in check. "You serious about her?" I asked, my voice coming out rougher than I intended.

Josh snorted, falling back onto the grass beside me. "What does it matter, man? She's probably out there having fun, forgetting about me." I turned my head to look at him, my expression deadpan. "Because if you are serious, you need to cut the crap with Melanie. And you fucking know it." My tone left no room for argument. 17:50 CHAPTER 67 1288 Vouchers Josh groaned, throwing an arm over his face like that would block out the truth. "I know, alright? I tried, but she got all emotional and threatened to tell Laura. You know how girls get." "Yeah, well, that's on you, bro." I shook my head, trying to knock ssense into him. "I'm just saying if Laura's the one, your better stop screwing around before you lose her for good." The irony of my convincing Josh to tell the truth wasn't lost, but his situation was different or at least that's what I was going to tell myself repeatedly later.

Josh sat up suddenly, his eyes wide like I'd just slapped him with reality. "Yeah, I need to tell her. I need to tell her tonight." He got to his feet, all jittery energy and bad ideas. "She's not answering. Something might be wrong-let's go find them." I wasn't sure if this was the best plan, but there was no way I was letting him do something stupid on his own. "Fine, but if this blows up in your face, don't say I didn't warn you." A couple of hours later, we were freshly showered, dressed, and standing outside the club just after midnight. The bouncer at the entrance barely looked up before stepping aside. Smart guy. Both of us were bigger and just not in the mood. Inside was a different story- people everywhere, drunk off their asses, grinding up against each other like they had no shame. This was not my scene, and I knew it wasn't Josh's either, but we were here, so we might as well make the best of it. My eyes immediately scanned the room for her, but I cou "Let's split up. You find my sister make sure she's fine, and I'll CHAPTER 67 1288 Vouchers look for Laura," Josh yelled over the thumping bass, his expression a mix of determination and barely contained rage. At least now I get to do what I really wanted - find her.

I nodded, giving him a look that said, Don't screw this up, before heading toward the bar. This night was already a clusterfuck, and I had a bad feeling it was about to get worse.

The club was packed, but it only tooka few seconds to spot. her-and damn it, that dress was shorter than it should be. My jaw clenched so hard I thought I might crack a tooth.

I was about to storm over when something else caught my eye -a pair of hands on her waist. My vision tunneled, the rest of the room blurring out. Who the hell did this guy think he was? Touching Jess like he had any right to her? My blood was boiling as I pushed through the crowd, shoving anyone who got in my way. I didn't care who they were or how pissed off they got. The only thing I could see was that scrawny blond guy leaning in way too close to Jess, his hands on her like he owned her. Before I even realized what I was doing, I was behind her, yanking her away from the guy and pulling her into me. My grip was firm, maybe a little too rough, but I didn't give a damn. She was mine to protect, not his to touch.

Was she mine? Of course not.

I shoved that feeling far, far down.

The blond idiot looked up, his eyes narrowed as he sizedup, 17.50 CHAPTER OF

but I could see the flicker of fear there, too. He didn't stand a chance, but he knew it.

"Listen, asshole," the guy spat, trying to sound tough but failing miserably, "I didn't know who you think you are, but she's with me." my arm didn't budge, and he wasn't going to rip her out of my hold, but he tried, "Man, mind your business." the pathetic excuse mumbled. I could barely contain the growl that rumbled in my chest. "She is my business," I said, keeping my voice low, each word lace with a threat that even this moron could understand.

The way he backed down, eyes wide with panic, was almost pathetic. Almost. Because Pause right now call cared about was getting Jessica the hell away from him and making sure she never found herself in this situation again - especially wearing that dress.
