"Alicia, are you saying we break into each warehouse?" He thought that doing so might cause a stir.
"Is there any other way? What if we can't tell which unit it is? What if he's in the cold storage? If we wait until we find the surveillance video, it may be too late. Moreover, these warehouse units are rented out for storage purposes. It could be ages before we locate the owners and get access to them." The fastest way would be to break in.
"Sof these units have known owners and are for general storage. For example this one, it is clearly marked on the layout map and is used for long-term fruit storage. Even the address is clearly stated. This type of long- term storage won't be sublet. Therefore, we can exempt them from the search or leave them until the last to search. We should start searching for the ones that have an ambiguous or suspicious lease but don't overlook everything else here. Search each of them one by one. We have many people here, we can finish the search in two hours. Mark the ones that we have done searching by tying a rope on the door handle, so we don't repeat the search and waste our time." Alicia stood on the higher ground, pointed towards the warehouse and said.
"Now that the surrounding area is quiet and your target is big. The guys might have escaped already or realized we are here. You should be on the lookout. Since these people know who you are and are being cautious. They are desperate but not ruthless. If given a choice, they will not kill the victim! Once they find out they've kidnapped the wrong person, they will probably kidnap Frederick along and contact us for ransom. Either that or they will hide her in the warehouse and escape." Alicia paused to take a breath before continuing.
"So, let's search! If you find her, practice discretion. Either try to negotiate or try to rescue her. If we still can't locate her after the search, we'll call the police! We shouldn't waste any more time!" These people were amateurs, after all. Even if they were trained professionally, they couldn't compete with the combat-trained police.
Alicia was anxious and thought to herself, "I hope everything goes well." They looked at each other and Chet nodded. "Let's do as you said!" After that, they drove further forward. Chet instructed the men to keep a low profile and notify him of any situations before taking any action.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtBefore both Chet and Alicia could understand the situation fully and were waiting anxiously, a phone call suddenly cin.
"Found it! It's at Storage B109_3. We found a piece of a business card near the door. We searched around the area and found the door to the unit unlocked!" "Don't move! We are on our way!" After hanging up the phone, Chet and Alicia rushed to the unit. They scanned around. The gate was indeed unlatched. As Alicia approached, she saw something shiny near a pile of rocks. She motioned to Chet, and they walked over slowly. She picked it up and saw that it was a golden watch.
"Frederick's watch! This must be it! I can't see the inside. Is there anyone inside?" They looked at each other and Alicia said softly, "Let's negotiate. As long as no one gets hurt, we'll fulfill any of the conditions!" Chet nodded. There was no other way. He raised his hands to motion the others to back away. Then, he shouted tentatively.
"Is there anyone inside? Your warehouse is not locked? Aren't you afraid of theft? Anyone inside? I'm conning in!" There was no response, even after they shouted for a while. Chet stepped forward. He leaned against the side of the doorand pushed it open. There was another sealed metal door.
"It's cold storage! Open the door!" Immediately, two burly men stepped forward. With each man on one side of the door, it took them a lot of effort to slide open the door. They braced themselves against the sudden gust of cold air.
"There's someone here!" The hail of bullets they expected never came. Chet rushed in, "Frederick..." Alicia rushed forward after him. As she looked up, she was as stunned as everyone else. She stopped abruptly and the word "hubby" froze in her throat.
Frederick was on the floor with a woman in his arms, in the middle of the huge frozen space. Both of them were hunched over and their clothes were in a mess. They were motionless, their faces were pale.
Danica? She saw that the two of them were holding each other intimately. Frederick must have tried to keep her warm with his body, even his et clothes were unbuttoned in front. Her head buzzed as if someone had taken a bat to it. Alicia was momentarily stunned.
"Call the ambulance! Save them! Don't just stand around!" Chet was the first to rush over as he took off his jacket. The temperature in the room was too cold. Both Frederick and Danica looked like they had been frozen by the cold. It took a while to separate the two people.
Alicia looked at them blankly. She did not know how she felt. She felt empty as she watched everyone before her rushing. However, the only thing she could feel was the cold.
Chet draped his jacket around Frederick's body and slapped him on the face continuously. He pinched Frederick's between the eyes and said, "Frederick, wake up! Quick, get them out of here!" Chet motioned for the men to carry Danica out first before helping Frederick, who was still relatively warm.
A few people worked together to carry the two people out of the cold storage. Alicia followed blindly. The car was equipped with heating and the medics were there.
"The woman has lost consciousness! Her heart is still beating. Get her to the hospital!"
While everyone was speaking, they got into the car. Chet continued to rub Frederick's hands and massage his arms. Soon, Frederick regained consciousness and opened his eyes slowly. "Frederick, are you awake?" His breathing was weak and he was drifting in and out of consciousness, "Da... Danica?" Alicia heard him say the nas she neared him. Chet, who was still holding Frederick's hands, grimaced. He saw her out of the corner of his eye and answered.

"Ally!" He was glad to see her safe.
Seeing that he was struggling, Alicia reached out and took his hand without saying a word. Before she could say anything, Frederic closed his eyes. His energy had been fully depleted. Alicia could feel the strength of his grasp and his familiar temperature, but she didn't feel quite the sas before. Chet noticed the awkward situation. After knowing that Frederick would be fine since he managed to wake up, Chet straightened up and tried to explain.
"Don't take it to heart, Alicia! Frederick' s feverish... I mean frozen! I was with him last night when we received news that you had been kidnapped. Frederick..." Chet tried his best to explain and even highlighted the fact deliberately. However, the more he tried to clarify it, the less convinced Alicia was. She thought he was just trying to defend Frederick's actions.
The scene that she had witnessed earlier and the cold shoulders that Frederick had been giving her far the past few days ago, seemed to have etched in her heart and mind.
Everything else had gone up in smoke. She was no longer convinced.
