Chapter 428

The elevation of the slope made it difficult to traverse and even more so for John, who had to carry

Cordy.

However, she was really spent and could not even open her eyes as she leaned in his arms.

She vaguely heard cars screeching to a stop and the whirring rotors of a helicopter...

Patrick's people had probably arrived.

What perfect timing-not a moment too soon and not a moment too late.

With that, Cordy finally dozed off.

When she woke up again, she found herself in a place she did not recognize.

It was not the hospital, her apartment in North City, or John's apartment.

She blinked, her eyelids still feeling very heavy just like her head.

She felt like she had slept for a long while to the point that she could not wake up.

"You're awake." John's deep voice spoke beside her just then, quietly and tenderly.

Cordy turned toward that familiar face of his and saw that his fair, handsome cheeks were covered in

cuts and bruises of every size.

Blinking, she asked, "Where am I?'

Her voice was terribly raspy and her throat hurt a lot too.

"Rocktown," John replied, but he quickly added, "Don't worry. You're safe here."

However, Cordy did not believe that 'safe' applied when she was on the Stuarts' turf.

She certainly did not have the strength to resist since she could not even get up.

"Let me help you up," John told her and arched his back to gently pick her up, and he placed several

soft pillows behind her so that she could lean comfortably.

It was then that she saw she had her wrist attached to an IV drip and the room was actually a makeshift

medical ward.

After she sat up with John's help, he asked, "Water?"

"Yeah," she nodded-her throat was so dry it hurt.

John got up and poured her a glass of water. "Wait a moment. I'll help you drink."

"I can do it myself," Cordy insisted, mustering all her strength just to raise her hand.

It felt limp and tired, and she suddenly realized that breathing was actually taxing.

"Don't push yourself," John told her, holding the glass beside her lips. "You've been asleep for three

days, and you haven't eaten anything. The IV was the only thing sustaining you, so it makes sense if

you've lost your strength."

Cordy stared at him then-she was asleep for three days?

"Fortunately, you woke up," he said, his lips curling up into a smile.

Cordy was not fatally injured, but she simply refused to wake up.

Even though the doctor insisted that she was just sleeping and recuperating from fatigue, John was still

worried and stayed beside her constantly, never leaving her side.

In fact, there were monitors that observed her vitals constantly, but he would still lean in to check if she

was breathing.

And thankfully, she was constantly breathing, and now, she had woken up.

"Just rest," he told her mildly. "You’d be dizzy after lying down for so long. I'll make you some oatmeal

after you drink. If

He was so tender, as if fearful he would break her.

Holding the glass by her lips, he carefully helped her drink.

When she finished the glass, he was about to get up and leave when she stopped him. "John."

"Yeah?"

"Am I missing any limbs?"
