Chapter 393
"Why?" Cordy asked, working hard to keep herself calm.
"I'll explain when I get back," John replied.
"Are you going to announce your wedding date?" Cordy asked bluntly.
John was left silent for heartbeats, while Cordy made herself very clear." It's already expected. It
doesn't affect me at all."
"That's not all-"
"You're scarily selfish, John," she said, putting weight behind every word.
John felt his breath leave his lungs right then.
At the same time, Cordy continued, "Whether this marriage is by your will or otherwise, Jessica Stuart
considers you her partner now. It’s a legitimate relationship, so why would you keep clinging to me? Is
this fair to her? Sure, I'm not that much of a saint to sympathize with someone who wants me dead, but
it still disgusts me how irresponsible you can be-to her and to me."
"I will never marry Jessica Stuart," John repeated, his tone somber and obviously repressing his rage.

just doing my best to live my life, so could you please stop harassing me?!"
"Just don't come to Rocktown. I promise that from now on, I won't bother you until I've resolved my
personal affairs,’ John promised.
"Do you even know who sent me the invitation?!" Cordy demanded in turn." It's William Stuart himself!"
"I know."
"Do you think I would still get to operate a business if I said no to him?"
"The most important thing for you to do is avoid the spotlight. You're drawing too much attention."
"Do you really think I won't draw attention even if I did? I'm an eyesore no matter what I do now, John,
and it's all because of you!"
"I will make it up to you.’
"I don't need that!" Cordy snapped, refusing him.''I'm definitely going to that charity ball in Rocktown.
Whatever's going on between you and Jessica -whether it's the announcement of your wedding date or
a shotgun wedding, it is no skin off my back!"
"Cordy, please just listen to me. Don't get impulsive about this...’
"You think I'm going just to upset you? Do you think I want to go at all?! I have to go, and that's a fact! If
I didn't, I'd be disrespecting the Stuarts, and William Stuart can use that to coerce Patrick Stuart into
cutting me off!"
"You never should have worked with him."
"Hah!" Cordy snorted coldly-so John knew, but did not care about her situation. "You're the one who's
saying that I'm getting too much attention. How much longer do you think I'd survive without him
shielding me?"
"You shouldn't depend on him,’ John told her.
"And I have even less reason to depend on you," Cordy retorted curtly.
"Either way, I'm not letting you attend the ball next week. HI give you a reasonable explanation when I
can," John simply said, and hung up right then.
He was as stubborn as he was cold.
Cordy put her phone down a little heavily in turn.

Still, she ultimately decided to ignore him, and thought nothing of what he said.
That is, until Saturday-when she was ready to leave for Rocktown.
She realized that John's threat was not merely verbal as she opened the door to find Jay standing
there, with two burly men in black standing beside him, their visages intimidating.
"What’s this?" Cordy asked with a frown, although she had an idea already.
"Johnny sent me," Jay replied. 'Don't blame him-he's just doing this for your own good."
"For my own good?!" Cordy snorted, the rage in her voice uncontrollable while she clenched her
knuckles, ready to swing it! "If he cared, he should respect me instead of coercing me like this!"
Jay stared at her in silence for a while, before slowly saying, "He’ll explain why."
"I don't need that," Cordy growled, working hard to calm herself. "Please let me leave. Jay."
"I'm sorry," Jay replied, his reaction staunch.
His demeanor was different than usual, too.
In the end, a Levine is a Levine-their blood flows with apathy!
