"Mm," Gabriel grunted, handing the box to her.

Sylvia took it with both hands, her eyes lighting up. It was a beautiful timepiece. The solid gold case opened to reveal a dial with a

tiny sailboat, its sails ingeniously forming the hour and minute hands.

"It's beautiful," she breathed.

"It's yours," Gabriel said.

Sylvia immediately shook her head, handing it back. "I can't accept another gift from you."

He took it, his gaze fixed on the watch inside. "lI was about five," he began, his voice low. "My father went to an auction overseas

and bought it. He paid a fortune for it as a gift for my mother. But | broke it when we were vacationing here one year."

"It's far too valuable," Sylvia said with a smile. "I really can't accept it."

Gabriel's eyes flickered to her face. He opened a drawer deep inside a cab and placed the watch inside. Sylvia had a feeling

there was more to the story, but given his demeanor, she knew better than to ask.

Just then, Grace sent a message to the group chat, inviting everyone to her place for a barbecue that evening.

An hour later, twilight descended, though the fine drizzle persisted.

Two large paumbrellas were set up in the courtyard of Grace's villa. Under one, a grill sizzled away; under the other, a long

dining table was set. Jonas had volunteered for grilling duty, and the others pitched in to help. Despite the gloomy weather,

everyone was in high spirits. The gentle patter of rain and the mingling scents of mist and barbecue created a deeply relaxing

atmosphere.

Gabriel sat off to the side, alone, scrolling through his phone.

Grace walked over and handed him a cup of freshly brewed tea. "If you don't feel like socializing, you can go inside," she said with

a gentle smile. "Don't force yourself."

Gabriel took a sip. "It's fine," he said quietly. "I'd just be bored in my room."

Grace sat down across from him, gazing out at the rain. "Gab..." She turned back, but his attention was elsewhere. She followed his

gaze and saw him watching Sylvia, who was chatting with Jenny.
